Sheila Phillips
Jitter-bugging parents, a step-dancing grandfather, and an uncle who played the spoons...it's no wonder dance instructor Sheila Phillips loves what she does...it's in her blood!
Sheila has taught dance for more than 14 years. She received formal training in Jazz dance at college age, went on to become certified with the Golden State Dance Teacher's Association, and continued her training at the Washington Dance Club in Seattle. She was co-founder and coach for the award-winning Swingin' Hep Cats and now coaches a teen dance troupe known as Island Hep Cats. She teaches for USA Dance and also for the Bainbridge Island Metro Park and Recreation District, the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center, and health clubs and schools on and off the island.
She is a certified instructor in Ballroom, Latin, and Swing, and offers both private and semiprivate lessons (no partner necessary). Swing and Salsa are currently the most popular dances and happen to be her favorites! She believes in sharing the joy of dance with another and finds special satisfaction in teaching social partner dancing. She particularly enjoys preparing couples for their wedding. Sheila feels that dance has no age boundaries. She instructs at all age levels—grade schoolers, teens and adults, as well as senior citizens.
